TV Characters

Posted on: April 19, 2011

TV fluctuates regularly in terms of quality programming.  But, over the years there have been some unforgettable characters.  These are just a few of my favorites:

1) Dr. Sheldon Cooper (The Big Bang Theory) —  I love the entire cast, and I really love that the series revolves around science.   But, Sheldon is by far the most memorable because he is brilliant and neurotic at the same time … Bazzinga!

2) Cameron (Modern Family) — This comedy is extremely well-done, and I am happy they have received so many awards recently to affirm that fact.  Everything Cam does makes me laugh out loud!  He is both outrageous and supersensitive, and Eric Stonestreet plays the role perfectly.

3) George Costanza (Seinfeld) — This cast was collectively and individually amazing, and the series was completely original.  Nevertheless, George stands out with all his wacky quirkiness!

I totally agree w/ your comment re: fluctuations in quality TV. Here are my top three:

1) Dr. Sheldon Cooper (The Big Bang Theory)–Hands down he is the best, but Penny is a close second in my book.

2) Dr. Temperance Brennan (Bones)–J got me hooked on this series. The character development on this show is top-notch and the science/mystery aspect really is intriguing.

3) Patrick Jane (The Mentalist)–He is so darn witty…and I had a love/hate relationship with his character in “The Devil Wears Prada”.

Some other favs:
Barney (How I Met Your Mother)
The Entire Cast of Friends
Penelope Garcia (Criminal Minds)
Charlie Harper (Two and a Half Men) (Yeah, I know Charlie Sheen is crazy, but I still liked his character!)

Responding to J:
1) All of the characters on BBT are outstanding — both in terms of the writing & their acting performances. You have to love all of them!
2) I have to admit that I don’t watch Bones. Others have recommended it, but I am afraid of the gore factor — kind of how I feel about NCIS as well.
3) I don’t watch The Mentalist either. But, I probably should because I loved Simon Baker in The Devil Wears Prada.
4) Barney is … wait for it … LEGEND-ARY!!
5) I would put all of the “Friends” in my top 10 for sure.
6) You can’t beat the cast of Two and a Half Men for laughs.
